In the midst of electro-dance fever, guitar-based blues-rock still lives with the help of new indie rock band Morning Electric.
Long-time fans and first-time listeners of Morning Electric have a hard time with labels. As an artist, their lead singer Sway, has crossed genres from rap to rock, and when he gets on the mic, his voice shocks audiences.
Self-taught musicians Eric (guitarist), Ryan Haslett (guitarist) and Sway, decided to form a band with the initial motivation that most aritsts share: women. Influenced by bands like the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, The Verve and Guns N' Roses, they experimented with elements of blues, Motown, classic rock and mixed it with indie rock.
Guitarist Ryan Haslett brings the expertise of being one of Canada's top sound engineers (Sloan, the Wooden Sky, Surplus Sons) to the mix, which has resulted in the band's signature crisp, polished sound, both on the new EP and in their live show. Meanwhile, bassist Ryan Gavel and drummer Jesse Labovitz cut their teeth in the rock game as members of Sony BMG-signed punk rock band No Warning before joining Morning Electric after the previous band's breakup.
Morning Electric has just released their 5-song "Slippery Fingers Can Lead To An End "EP, which spans from slow Motown inspired soul to infectious danceable blues and classic rock riffs. Many comparisons have been made to bands like Wolfmother, Queens Of The Stone Age and Kings Of Leon with the aggressive blues based sound and energetic live shows.
